Drift Energy Energy Ltd., a pioneering Somerset-based company producing net-positive ships that exploit deep ocean wind to produce green hydrogen at sea, was awarded the Monaco Prize for Innovation in Renewable Hydrogen and Transportation. The Monaco Prize also recognises three Hydrogen Pioneers:
- The Best Cross-Sector Applicability Solution was awarded to France’s H2GREMM, developer of innovative hydrogen ecosystems combining advanced electrolysis technology and renewable energy to decarbonize mobility;
- CROFT, from the United States, was awarded the Most-Disruptive Potential for its creating hydrogen ecosystem, integrating a high-performance, combustion-powered pick-up truck with a Base Station for on-site hydrogen production;
- Germany’s Water Stuff & Sun was awarded the Best Emerging Technology Solution for its carbon fiber SFEERs and MEMS chip technology, enabling safe, flexible, and cost-efficient hydrogen storage and distribution.

The challenge aims to identify innovative and differentiated technologies that can have a demonstrable impact on the development of renewable Hydrogen across the landscape of mobility and transportation. Challenge participants are judged on the scalability and viability of their solutions.

BENEFITS FOR FINALISTS AND PRIZE WINNERS
Winning applicants will enter an accelerated process of connecting to the Alliance’s network of startups, and corporate, government and academic partners. The winner, if appropriate, will automatically be included in the 2024 Cohort of the M2HAccelerator and will also be featured on the Alliance’s media platforms, notably the MHA newsletter. They will also enjoy fast-track collaboration with the Monaco Hydrogen Alliance’s 2023 Strategic Partner, ENOWA with a potential visit to NEOM to study the applicability of their solution.

Now in its third year, the Monaco Prize for Innovation in Renewable Hydrogen and Transportation is a prestigious international challenge designed to accelerate technological innovation in the field of renewable hydrogen and mobility. Each year the Prize recognizes outstanding technological innovations in clean Hydrogen applications, with one overall winner and three runners-up distinguished as Hydrogen Pioneers.

Who awards the Prize? What is the selection process?
The Prize is awarded by H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco. Initial selection rounds will be led virtually by the Advisory Members of the Monaco Hydrogen Alliance and representatives from relevant expert, founding and strategic partners. For the final round, interviews will take place in person. Successful candidates will be informed after each round.
Benefits for finalists and prize winners
The selected finalists will have the opportunity to pitch in front of the Monaco Hydrogen Alliance Select Committee of Judges at the Monaco Hydrogen Forum held on December 2 & 3, 2024. The winners will be awarded the prize during the Awards Ceremony on December 3rd.
